Need a better plastic bag storage idea? Check out this idea for how to organize ziplock bags in your home.
When it comes to organizing a kitchen, there can be many challenges. Many kitchens don’t have enough drawer space or the drawers are too small.
And finding the best way to organize your kitchen takes time. I usually try several different locations and systems before I settle on the better option that works for my space and storage areas.
Plastic storage bags are no exception. They are one of those things that we like to have on hand for lunches when we can’t use reusable containers. We also use them to store food or freeze certain foods and they work great for giving food away to friends and family members.
So having a convenient place for these bags, is a must.
Ever since we remodeled our kitchen, I stored my plastic ziplock bags in a drawer in their original boxes. However, it wasn’t my favorite storage method. The storage space still looked cluttered and the cardboard boxes I used were falling apart and kept the drawer from closing easily.
After a little research, I found these natural bamboo organizers that we are now using for our ziploc storage bags.
I wanted to share with you this fun wooden organizer idea, because half of the challenge of organizing a kitchen is coming up with new methods to try.
These organizers are an efficient way for ziploc bag organization. There are a lot of different options available and some of them come equipped to hang on your pantry wall or pantry door, which is a plus if you don’t have much drawer space. They also come in different sizes which can help you find the best option to organize your bags in your drawer.

Individual Storage Bag Organizers
I bought this bamboo drawer organizer set to help with the cluttered feel of my storage drawer. It comes with 4 different individual boxes for your zip-top bags. Each container came engraved with a label for the different types of storage bags.
There was a box for sandwich bags, gallon bags, snack bags, and quart bags. I do wish the set came with a second sandwich bag box for the fold top sandwich bags I own, but I am considering eliminating them since the ziploc bags are so much nicer to use.
I purchased this to use in my kitchen drawers. However, this set look great on a counter or pantry shelf as well.
Below I will show you other options for bag drawer organizers that are grouped as one unit to make it easier to hang. However, this is a great option for drawer storage as it allows you the flexibility to move your containers around until they fit the best in your drawer.
Wall-Mounted Organizers
This storage bag organizer hangs on the wall. It comes in one solid piece so it is easier to hang. You could also store this type of organizer on a pantry shelf.
The hanging organizer comes with slots that allow you to easily hang it on your pantry wall or possibly inside of a cabinet door.
However, if you hang it on a cabinet door, you will need to be careful to check the thickness and material of the door you are hanging it on. You don’t want the screws to go through the other side of the door.
This organizer will also work in a drawer. Just make sure to look at the measurements of the unit and measure the inside of your drawer before you purchase the item.
The final option I am showing you, is a double bag storage and paper storage unit that includes bag storage and storage for tin foil, plastic wrap, and either wax paper or parchment paper. This storage unit can be hung on a wall or placed in a drawer.
Note: If you are planning on using these in a drawer, make sure to look at the dimensions on the item before ordering it, especially since the plastic wrap, wax paper, and tin foil holders have built in cutters that stick past the height of the box.
Why Use a Wooden Drawer Organizer?
- The cardboard boxes that house your storage bags come in many different sizes. It can be hard to fit the cardboard box in your drawer. I found myself keeping a smaller box on hand so I could transfer new bags into it. I like to buy bags in bulk, but the larger boxes didn’t fit in my drawers.
- Boxes wear out. As I continued to transfer bags into my smaller boxes, they began to break and get caught on the drawer when I opened and closed it.
- Boxes are busy looking. The wooden organizers look nice in the drawer because they are uniform.
- They fit both slider bags and regular ziploc bags.
- They come in many different sizes so you can find the one that works best for your drawer space.
How to Determine What Ziploc Bag Storage You Will Need
1. Empty Your Drawer or Bin
I always like to start with an empty slate when cleaning, so start by removing everything from the kitchen drawer or bin that you have your items stored in.
This is a great time to clean out any dust or crumbs that have accumulated in your storage area too.
Also, use this time to get rid of anything in the drawer that you don’t use or need.
2. Take Stock of Your Bags
Before you purchase new storage bag organizers, take a look at what you own for plastic bags. In my case, I had 5 different sizes of ziplock baggies that I use. The set of organizers I purchased did only have 4 holders, but I am planning on eliminating the fifth bag type that I have eventually as it is not used very frequently in my home.
I did find these options later for storing 5 bags.
3. Decide Where You Want to Store Your Ziplock Bags
If you plan on using your organizer in a drawer, remember to measure it! If you have shallow drawers, you will want to make sure that your new organizer fits inside your drawer.
I ended up moving my ziplock bags to another drawer, closer to my plastic storage containers because I didn’t measure correctly, so don’t skip this step!
4. Fill up Your Dispenser
These bamboo storage containers fit a standard sized box of bags perfectly. However, I like to buy plastic food storage bags in bulk, so I always keep extras on my pantry shelves downstairs.
If you buy bigger boxes, insert a handful of bags in your dispensers and store the rest in plastic bins or on the shelf in a closet or pantry.
Top Reasons to Use a Wooden Storage Dispenser
So, to recap, here are the reasons I love these new storage units for ziploc bags.
- They are a great way to have easy access to your storage bags.
- They make messy drawers look more organized and keep all of your items contained.
- The boxes are durable.
- They give your drawers a more unified look.
- You can purchase them in a variety of sizes so that you can find the right size for your drawers or storage area.
Hopefully these ideas will help you find a way to store your bags that works best for your space.
